I’m JaMar Jones, born and raised in West Baltimore. In my middle school years, I, along with my cousins, swapped our game systems for a VHS camcorder. We sneaked into abandoned houses, filming what we found funny. But life took a somber turn when my cousin passed away, casting a shadow over my world.
Shifting my focus to music, I became a DJ and music producer. Yet, I realized the radio industry couldn’t fulfill my artistic aspirations. Then came an unexpected opportunity from Red Bull North America. Despite my initial unfamiliarity with documentary filmmaking, I embraced the challenge.
Miraculously, resources appeared—invaluable editing software, a Mac Pro Tower from a friend, and even financial support from my frugal mother. These instances reignited my love for filmmaking and affirmed my calling.
I began creating films that portrayed the reality of my surroundings. "Product of My Environment (POME)," my debut film, gained attention, fueling my passion for storytelling. Despite feeling constrained by my location post-graduation, I remained determined to spotlight individuals like me striving for positive change.
Facing adversity, including eviction, I transformed an empty warehouse into a creative sanctuary. From its humble beginnings, this space birthed Six Point Pictures, my film production company devoted to evocative visual storytelling. Under my leadership, Six Point Pictures collaborated with influential entities like BET, Disney, META, YouTube Originals, and Amazon. Rooted in entrepreneurship and a commitment to representation, I've mentored aspiring filmmakers and advocated for untold stories. Acknowledging my achievements while recognizing the journey ahead, I see my career as an ongoing quest for self-expression and narrative exploration. I invite you to join me on this journey of collaborative storytelling that challenges, inspires, and deeply resonates with the world.
